sxcoal.com is pleased to announce that the Fenwei CCI 5500 Composite index will be unveiled officially on July 18, following an internal trial since the start of the year.
sxcoal.com will publish the composite index at its official website (www.sxcoal.com) each working day. It will also publish the composite index data compiled during the internal trial run back to January 1, 2017.
With the composite index, which is a complement to Fenwei CCI 5500 Spot index, sxcoal.com aims to provide a better indicator of changes in the entire thermal coal market in China.
In essence, the Fenwei CCI 5500 Composite index reflects the composite price level of 5,500 Kcal/kg NAR coal traded under three major transaction modes at the Bohai Rim ports. It is the weighted average of CCI 5500 Term index (70%), CCI 5500 Bulk index (20%) and CCI 5500 Spot index (10%).
The CCI 5500 Term index reflects the price level of term contracts signed between key miners and buyers in the contract period. If multiple pricings exist in the term-contract market, the index will be the weighted average of these pricings.
The CCI 5500 Bulk index reflects the spot price level at which key miners sell to term contract buyers for purchases that are not signed or beyond the signed contract volume in the contract period.
The CCI 5500 Spot index reflects the price level at the spot market participated by all market players. The price is reached through public offers and bids.
Four years ago, sxcoal.com started to publish Fenwei CCI 5500 Spot index that represents only the transactions of domestic 5,500 Kcal/kg NAR coal at China's spot thermal coal market. As term contracts expand in proportion of the total transactions, the spot market has become increasingly ineffective in reflecting the overall market level.
